Will Complete Dentures Affect My Appearance?
Dentures may affect your appearance for the better, giving you a more youthful look thanks to improved facial-muscle support.
Why Do My Dentures Feel Strange?
It’s common for dentures to feel strange at first. Among the most common complaints are front teeth feeling too far forward and lips feeling too thick. These symptoms will disappear after a few hours wearing your new dentures.
Will Dentures Affect My Speech?
Some wearers find their speech affected when first getting used to new dentures. To help adjust, try reading out loud or counting from 65 to 70. You may also salivate more, making speech difficult. Try sipping water and swallowing often to alleviate this.
Will Dentures Affect How I Eat?
Properly fitted dentures return your jaw to its natural position, and this may affect your chewing and biting ability in the short-term. Don’t worry – it won’t be long before things improve.
In the beginning, avoid tough, hard and sticky foods and take smaller bites until you get used to your new bite position. Try chewing on both sides of your mouth at the same time, using an up-and-down motion instead of side-to-side.
When Can I Wear My Dentures?
How long you wear dentures for is entirely up to you. We recommend giving your gums a regular break, and most people find that night time during sleep is the best opportunity to do so.
Will Dentures Make My Gums Sore?
We design dentures to be as natural and comfortable as possible. Some soreness is to be expected while your gums adjust and some wearers occasionally report longer lasting sore spots. If this happens to you, just give us a call, and we’ll make adjustments until you’re 100% happy.
How Should I Store my Dentures?
It’s important not to let your dentures dry out. So store them in a glass of water or in your favourite denture soak.
Help! My Dentures have Dried Out!
If your dentures dry out, don’t worry. Just soak them in a glass of water before popping back in.
How Should I Clean my Dentures?
Clean the full surface of your dentures daily. Remove any traces of adhesive and take special care on those parts which come into contact with gums. To remove food remnants, use a specialist denture brush and cream before soaking in solution.
Will My Dentures Break Easily?
Dentures are built from a robust and resilient material, which shouldn’t break easily. Nevertheless, there are steps you can take to avoid accidental damage – like cleaning over a full basin of water.
Why Do I Need to Clean My Dentures Daily?
Even healthy mouths harbour bacteria which can aggravate infection, so cleaning daily is essential.
What Denture Cleaner should I use?
Conventional toothpaste isn’t suitable for denture cleaning. Use a specialist cleaner instead – and never use bleach or boiling water.
Can I Wear My Dentures at Night?
Wearing dentures at night during sleep is common as some patients feel embarrassed about removing their dentures in front of their partner. If this is the case, you may prefer to soak your dentures in an appropriate cleaning solution before bed, allowing you to wear clean dentures during sleep. Dentures must be spotlessly cleaned at night to avoid decay or irritation – especially if you still have natural standing teeth.
